Focus on India
Here we are again, getting set to play against a young Indian team with several young players who are just trying their level best to impose themselves on us. We are the World Cup holders, and naturally every team in the world is trying to "knock us off the perch".
One thing that happens when a team reaches the top is that they become the target for all sorts of efforts to unseat them, and because we have been at the top of world cricket for some years now, we are fairly accustomed to these tactics. It doesn't matter what psychological or physical methods are used, we have probably seen them before. That is not to say that a team cannot beat us - that is the wonderful thing about sport - one day you are the champion, and the next day, someone can devise tactics and apply them and beat you.
Matty Hayden is having a ball. He is in such great touch that it must be intimidating to bowl at him. And Andrew Symonds is also in a rich vein of form. I just wish I could get a really big score. I feel that I am batting really well, but things are just not quite falling into place. Perhaps today!!! I am quite keen to get another look at their new young quicks, but that may not happen today, as the wicket looks very suited to spinners. What a surprise!
Don't forget t have a look at the Adam Gilchrist Cricket Development Scholarship pages on this website. You might just be the lucky young Australian player who gets a chance to spend a season playing in England. Also have a look at the details of the boxed set of decanter and glasses that are on sale to support junior cricket in the Bellingen area - my birthplace. The sets make wonderful memorabilia, and I am most grateful to Bellingen and Chris Moran in particular, for their efforts. The details are in a previous blog about the Captains' Walk.
