OTHER RELEVANT FACTS

  1. The 97 sixes currently represents 582 runs. In other words 11% of the 5290 test runs Gilly has scored have been hit over the fence.
  2. Most memorable sixes
    1. Wellington NZ 2005 when he broke the glass window in the Members Stand - there was that great photo of the broken window.
    2. Johannesburg 2002 when he just missed the sign for a million rand.
    3. Hitting Ashley Giles for six in Brisbane in 2002, second ball in his second innings when on a test pair.
    4. Depositing Harbhajan Singh over the barbed wire in Mumbai in 2001.
    5. 3 sixers in 4 balls against Monty Panesar in Ashes deciding test match in Perth, December 2006.
    6. Possibly biggest six was against Ray Price, Zimbabwe in Perth in 2003 - hit roof of stand and went a mile in the air after he was beaten in the flight!.
  3. Gilly heads the all time list of test batsman for most sixes in a test career and is poised to be the first in test history to achieve 100 sixers in their test career. No other keeper makes the top 50 players. Next best is Moin Khan at No 52 with 27 sixes. Rod Marsh is next best Australian on 24.

(We must make some allowance for fact that ropes have been introduced in last 20 years. But this is not always relevant eg the WACA in December 2006 all sixers were hit over the fence. Other grounds like Wanderers and sub continent are the same. Most of Gilly's have gone over the fence in any event.)
